Installing the huupe ARENA Sensor Hub System

Mounting bracket & clamp
STEP 1

Mounting bracket & clamp

The Mounting Bracket (#1) and Bracket Clamp (#2) come pre-assembled.

You will notice that there are a series of numbers on the top of the universal mounting bracket. Each number represents a different mounting depth for the bracket. The lower numbers represent shallow depths for thin portable backboards. Higher numbers correspond to deeper backboard frames, including most 60" and 72" backboards.

In order to get the most stable configuration for your backboard, you should use the lowest number possible to fit onto your backboard.

When mounting the huupe ARENA sensor hub over the backboard, it must be assembled to the correct depth ON THE GROUND FIRST. Do not climb the ladder and try to adjust the bracket depth at a high position.

If you are assembling the sensor hub onto a portable unit or any adjustable height system, we highly recommend lowering the rim height to the lowest possible setting.

Set the bracket depth
STEP 2

Set the bracket depth

To determine the correct mounting number for your backboard, measure the depth of the frame of your backboard. This dimension will be from the “inside” of your glass surface to the back edge of the top frame member.

  • For portable basketball systems, this frame measurement will likely be between 1" and 1 ¼". For this size of frame, positions 1 or 2 will be your bracket setting.
  • For medium depth frames between 1 ½" and 1 ¾", positions 3 or 4 will be your bracket setting.
  • For larger depth frames between 2" and 2 3/8", positions 5 or 6 will be your bracket setting. For even larger frames, use position 7.

To adjust the clamp position, remove the three screws and move the Bracket Clamp to the appropriate mounting holes. Use the alignment markings to help position the clamp correctly.

Once the desired clamp position is selected, reinstall and securely tighten all three screws.

Mark the centerline & mount the hub
STEP 3

Mark the centerline & mount the hub

Measure the total width of the backboard and determine the center point. Mark the centerline on the top surface of the backboard with a Sharpie or pen. This mark will be used to center the Sensor Hub.

To install, tip the sensor hub TOWARD you, engage the floating clamping paddle on the corner of the frame FIRST. Then roll the unit over the front of the backboard.

IMPORTANT: DO NOT TIGHTEN at this step. DO NOT remove any of the adhesive backing yet.

If you cannot get the hub over the top frame and it seems that it will not fit or is too tight, RETURN TO THE GROUND. Move the clamp to the next higher-numbered position and retry the previous steps. Then move onto the next step.

Center & apply the adhesive
STEP 4

Center & apply the adhesive

Align the center of the Sensor Hub with the centerline marked in Step 3. Measure from both ends of the backboard to each edge of the sensor hub. Move the sensor hub side to side until these dimensions are equal.

Once the Sensor Hub is centered, peel off the protective film to expose the adhesive, then press the Sensor Hub firmly against the backboard.

IMPORTANT: Do not pull the adhesive removal tab on the right unless you intend to release and remove the adhesive.

Tighten the mounting knobs
STEP 5

Tighten the mounting knobs

Tighten the knobs on the mounting bracket until the Sensor Hub is securely clamped to the backboard.

DO NOT OVERTIGHTEN. Overtightening may cause the metal mounting bracket to bend or bow.

Waterproof protective caps
STEP 6

Waterproof protective caps

The huupe ARENA Sensor Hub is shipped with waterproof protective caps installed.

Remove a protective cap only when you are ready to connect the corresponding LED strip. Turn the cap counterclockwise to remove it.

Store the protective caps in a clean, dry place. If a connector is not in use, reinstall the protective cap to maintain the IP67 waterproof rating.

CAUTION: Never leave an unused connector uncovered. Damage caused by improper use of the protective caps may not be covered under warranty.

Connect the LED strips
STEP 7

Connect the LED strips

Connect each LED strip connector to the corresponding port on the huupe ARENA Upgrade Kit unit.

Left LED strip → Left port     Right LED strip → Right port

Align the waterproof connectors carefully and tighten them securely. Do not force the connectors.

Attach the cable tie mount
STEP 8

Attach the cable tie mount

Attach the cable tie mount to the backboard frame to secure and route the main power cable. Keep the cable tucked close to the frame and as hidden from view as possible for a clean installation.

Connect & route the power cable
STEP 9

Connect & route the power cable

Connect the main power cable to the huupe ARENA Sensor Hub.

Route the cable along the top and right side of the backboard, as shown in green. Secure the cable to the backboard frame using zip ties.

The opposite end of the power cable has a standard three-prong U.S. plug for connection to an outdoor-rated extension cord.

NOTE: Extension cord is not included with the huupe ARENA.

Secure the waterproof pouch
STEP 10

Secure the waterproof pouch

Enclose the connection between the extension cord and main power cable inside the waterproof pouch. Wrap the Velcro straps around the mounting arm to secure the pouch in place.

Alternative Backboard Configuration

For backboards without a rectangular frame

For backboards without a rectangular frame

For backboards without a traditional rectangular frame, use the rubber adapter included with the huupe ARENA Upgrade Kit.

Position the rubber adapter between the backboard glass and the mounting clamp, as shown. Tighten the clamp until the Sensor Hub is securely mounted.

DO NOT OVERTIGHTEN.
